Workshops
To be able to make a useful contribution to the settlement of international disputes through arbitration in commercial or foreign investment matters, students must also be confronted with the realities of a demanding practice. A comprehensive and detailed understanding of arbitration, its intricacies and applicable legal regimes is not enough. Students must be faced with its practical implementation, in a way as close as possible to actual practice.
Such is the objective of the series of ten workshops throughout the year. These will involve practitioners, both academic and non-academic, who will expose students to the necessary practical skills and knowledge. These workshops will highlight the importance of provisional and conservatory measures, the art of conducting and arbitral proceedings, including an expedited one, as well as the art of persuading (both in writing and orally) or to the art of examination and cross-examination. They will discuss in detail the distinctive features of some of the main arbitration rules and centers. A workshop will also be devoted to the delicate issue of damage assessment in international arbitration, which requires economic, financial as well as legal expertise. To keep up with a fast changing technological environment, artificial intelligence will also be addressed.
